How to Maintain and Protect A Secret Folder

As a kid, keeping secrets felt tiresome and wrong. As an adult, you know it’s necessary.

Perhaps there are sensitive financial records you need to keep track of on your computer, or personal musings that you intend for your eyes only, or maybe you simply have some files you’d rather other eyes don’t find.

Whatever the reason, a secret folder is the perfect solution for keeping your files under the radar.

The Art of Invisibility

Many parents probably shudder to think about just how easy it is for their children to hide files today; and rightfully so, considering the abundance of secret folder apps available.

If you want to maintain some privacy, but aren’t sure how much you trust a third party app to do it for you, there’s another solution: create the secret folder yourself. It’ll take a few minutes to fully accomplish, but you can rest assured knowing you’ve done the job right.

Flying Under The Radar

The easiest way to create a secret folder is simply to compile all of the sensitive files, then right click the file and choose “properties.” From there, go to “General” and check the box next to “Hidden.” Now your file won’t be visible until you change your settings to show hidden files.

If you suspect that interlopers on your device would be savvy enough to look for hidden files, you can take it a step further. To do this, create a folder within another new folder, add all of your files, and set the icon to an empty space. Next, add the folder to your archival software, add a password, and it won’t be detectable or openable by anyone else.

Wanting a little bit of extra security isn’t a bad thing; creative a secret folder could offer you some much needed peace of mind.
