How to Relax at The Computer
How many times have you been working at your computer, and realized you’re all tense?
You squint your eyes, lock your jaw, hunch your shoulders forward, and grip your mouse tightly. It’s not just you—very few people who work at desks actually take proper care of themselves while they’re doing it.
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that because you’re working in an office you’re not doing damage to your body; take some simple relaxation steps to refresh yourself.
Don’t Minimize Your Health
Many people who work on their computers all day are quick to downplay the potential health effects of doing so. The reality is that, in the scheme of professions, those that require constant computer work are relatively new, so the long term effects are still coming to light.
In the immediate future, you can experience issues with vision and musculoskeletal complications if you don’t take care to minimize the stress you’re placing on yourself now.
Taking A Breather
You might be reluctant to adopt any relaxation habits as it could cut down on your productivity. In reality, it will only take less than a minute every hour or so to make these healthy activities part of your routine.
Some of the easiest ways to relax while at your computer include:
- Stretching your neck, legs, and back. Lace your fingers over your head and push upward, tilt your neck from side to side, and reach for your toes.
- Looking away from your computer periodically. Every couple of minutes, take a 4 or 5 second break from your screen to blink and readjust. A couple of times an hour, close your eyes and place your palms over them.
- Walking around. A totally sedentary lifestyle has potentially disastrous implications on your health, so try to stay active.
Don’t allow yourself to become tense and uncomfortable at your computer when you can utilize these easy tricks to stay relaxed.
